Exploring Yoga
What is yoga?
Yoga is an ancient system of health and healing that has been practiced for more than 5,000 years.
Yoga can offer us a practical framework for living our lives and assist us in the managing of our every day physical, emotional and mental challenges. There are many types of yoga.  Carla's yoga classes are in the Hatha yoga style and emphasize postures (asana) and breathing exercises (pranayama) to help bring balance and vitality to one's life.

Do I need to be flexible to do yoga?
You do not need to be flexible to do yoga. Yoga is for everybody- no matter your age or body condition. Yoga postures can be adapted to your individual needs,  energy level and body condition.

What can I expect from practicing yoga?
The yoga poses or postures ( asana ) work by safely stretching your muscles. In addition to stretching your muscles the postures also stretch the soft tissues of the body such as ligaments, tendons, and the fascia sheath that surrounds your muscles. Yoga also increases the range of motion in your joints. It may also increase lubrication in the joints. As a result of practicing yoga regularly, you may feel a sense of ease and fluidity throughout your body.  Yoga emphasizes the breath and how breath supports the postures and assists in quieting the mind so in addition to the physical benefits you may begin to feel a sense of calm and peace: on and off the mat.
